I was given "His Lordship" to read whilst in hospital recovering from having my appendix removed; that was in the early 1970s. I'm not sure if it was such a good idea, because being "in stitches" whilst literally being "in stitches" was very painful indeed! It is the story of a male tennis coach at a girls boarding school; he tells his story from a remand cell! It went to show that we mere males simply don't stand a chance when it comes to the guiles and wiles of the female of the species! I have been hooked on Leslie Tomas ever since and read many of his books, including "His Lordship" over and over again. He is the best story-teller of all time.
