The Author
Patricia Riley Hammer grew up in southern New Jersey and earned a degree in ornamental horticulture from the state’s Cumberland County College. Her early horticultural career included experiences in both commercial nursery propagation and in tissue culture research. In 1977, she joined the horticulture staff of Longwood Gardens where she assumed responsibility for growing Longwood’s superb topiary creations that are featured in each year’s holiday displays.
