The Beginner's Cookbook
Parragon, 2009
Összefoglaló
The first thing worth noting is that the author of this book is Pamela Gwyther. I don't know why the top of this web page doesn't tell you that. Maybe because her name doesn't appear on the cover.
Anyway, this book is exactly what the title says it is, and does a great job at that. This is not primarily a recipe book. To be sure, there are a fair number of recipes. But half the book is about foods and food ingredients. With plenty of pictures, it explains the differences among creme fraiche, heavy cream and whipping cream; quail, corn-fed chicken and Guinea fowl; all your fruits and veggies. There's also help with techniques and principles, e.g. how to butcher a chicken, or how long different foods keep in storage.
